LiveJournal Layout - Installation Instructions

Okay! So, you've downloaded a layout pack from us that's suitable for LiveJournal and the installation instructions have linked you to this page. There are a couple of things you have to known first and foremost:-

    • Any package labelled 'Livejournal' should also work on InsaneJournal and any other journalling sites of the same kind of format. We here at hollow-art.com, however, are only familiar with LiveJournal, so we cannot guarantee that these instructions will work the same for other sites.
    • By installing a hollow-art.com layout, you promise not to remove the link back to our website from the code.
    • You need to have a paid account to be able to use this code. Sorry, we don't make the rules and both LJ and IJ have decreed paid accounts only.
    • If you have a problem with your code, please contact us with a link to the layout which you're having problems with and exactly what your problem is so that we can look at it.

    Setting up your code

Before we get to the install stage, there's steps you have to take to make sure it'll all go smoothly. We've tried to make these as easy for you as possible!

    1. Download and unzip your file. Check the contents of the folder. You should have the following:-
      • A header image (a large .jpg or .png with a nice picture image)
      • A background image (a long thin strip of a .jpg) Note: not all layouts have a background strip, but if there isn't a background strip on purpose there should be a note on the post saying it's missing!
      • A breaker image (a smaller two-tone .jpg)
      • A text file called LAYOUTCODE.TXT
    2. You now need to go host your pictures somewhere. We would recommend Photobucket or ImageShack as they both offer free photohosting. Wherever you choose to host your pics, remember to keep a note of the urls (both the recommended sites will give you a note of the 'direct link' upon upload - it's this link you want).
    3. Open up your code in a text editor of your choice and do a 'find and replace' as follows:-
      • FIND: HEADERURLHERE REPLACE WITH: the direct link to your header image
      • FIND: BACKGROUNDURLHERE REPLACE WITH: the direct link to your background iamge
      • FIND: DIVIDERURLHERE REPLACE WITH: the direct link to your breaker image
      • FIND: YOURUSERNAME REPLACE WITH: your journal username
      • For those users not on livejournal FIND: livejournal REPLACE WITH: whatever your site is (eg, insanejournal)
    4. Your code is now good to go!
